Expanded Pilot Study: Webometrics-Style Ranking for Regional Anesthesia & Interventional Pain Institutions

This detailed study presents an expanded pilot ranking of institutions active in regional anesthesia and interventional pain management. It applies a Webometrics-inspired methodology with the following indicators and weights: Presence (5%): Size and breadth of the institution’s main web domain (including subdomains). Visibility (50%): External networks/subnets linking to institution pages (proxied by public visibility signals). Transparency (10%): Citations from top researchers (proxied by presence of named faculty and profiles). Excellence (35%): Scholarly output (Scimago top-10% papers proxy; for non-HEIs we used leadership scholarly record). Because many organizations are societies, hospitals, or academies (not Scimago-indexed universities), proxies were used for several indicators. This is a pilot ranking for planning and comparative purposes. Methodology and Data Sources Data collection approach (pilot): Presence: manual inspection of main websites, educational portals, and size indicators. Visibility: proxy measures such as third-party citations, conference pages, YouTube channel size, and partnership links. Transparency: presence of named, published faculty with Google Scholar profiles or linked CVs. Excellence: institutional scholarly reputation and measurable publications where available (Scimago for HEIs; leadership publications for societies and academies). Limitations: Proprietary datasets (Ahrefs/Majestic/Scimago/Google Scholar exports) were not accessed directly in this pilot. Ranks are ordinal and illustrative; exact numeric replication requires institutional Scimago entries and backlink exports. Ranked Institutions (expanded list)

Suggested Chart

  • X-axis: Institutions (grouped by tier).
  • Y-axis: Composite Rank (lower = better).
  • Color code:
    • Gold = Elite Universities/Hospitals (Tier 1)
    • Silver = Global Societies (Tier 2)
    • Bronze = Specialized Academies / Regional Networks (Tier 3)
    • Blue = Focused Academies/Clubs (Tier 4)
    • Green = National Societies (Tier 5)

This creates a clear visual hierarchy: top academic powerhouses → global societies → specialized education providers → national/regional societies.
